The first section to be approached in this manner is likely to be at the connection with the GUC, where it is intended to create the junction with the Daventry Arm, spanned by a bridge over the junction. The project would need to be overseen by British Waterways, but it is hoped that volunteer labour can be used, as far as possible, under the supervision of Waterways Recovery Group, to keep costs to a minimum.
A smaller section, which could also be tackled at an early stage, is the clearing of scrub and initial landscaping of the area on the Eastern side of Northern Way leading up to the ‘canal’ bridge next to the iCon building. Again, this work could be undertaken by local volunteers with suitable supervision.
Of course, at this stage, this is all supposition, as planning permission will first have to be obtained (expected in the Autumn), and there is a great deal of additional research and fund raising to be undertaken before work can begin.
